HR professionals should be wary about the importance of two basic components of AAPs: developing job groups and determining availability. Job groups are the primary units of analysis in affirmative action plans – from the identification of under utilization thru the comparison of incumbency to availability report, to the determination of adverse impact thru the disparity analyses, and at times, to the initial identification of  compensation disparities. Inappropriately developed job groups could provide misleading results and consequently, time and efforts are spent that do not appropriately address areas of true concerns. Cookie-cutter labor areas and availability data sources could mean quick and easy AAP development but the end results may not be reflective of good intentioned EEO policies.

 

Attendees will walk away with practical guidelines on how to develop meaningful job groups, techniques for establishing appropriate labor areas, and learn more about additional availability data sources outside the Census 2010/American Community Survey data that could be more appropriate for certain job groups.
